On Wednesday, President Biden announced that migrants separated from their family members at the border wouldn’t receive money for the damage inflicted by the Trump-era policy. This rejected option for monetary compensation had been floated in negotiations with lawyers representing the separated families.

Representatives of the families and government officials had discussed giving families $450,000 for each member that was affected by ex-President Donald J. Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy, which led to the separation of around 5,500 children from their parents.
